BMW X6 M Will Debut At New York Auto Show

BMW on Friday confirmed that it will debut a high-performance M version of the X6 crossover at the New York auto show in early April.

The German automaker said the X6 M will "utilize several new engine, drivetrain and suspension technologies."

All-wheel drive will be standard, as the X6 M is set to rival the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG.

BMW says it will serve up the details on April 4.

2010 Porsche Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3

Porsche will offer U.S. customers a very limited version of its Cayenne SUV, the 2010 Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3.
Featuring interior and exterior styling cues that help communicate this unique Porsche's high-performance personality, it is the first time the Porsche Design stylists have chosen an SUV rather than one of Porsche's sports cars.

Available through authorized Porsche dealers in the second half of this year for an MSRP of $89,900, the Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 comes in Lava Grey Metallic with special design stripes adorning the sides and the hood.

The 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander lineup receives a few changes. This compact crossover SUV comes in ES, SE, and XLS trims, each with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Outlander's AWD system can be set for front-drive only, for AWD, and for a locked-in 50/50 front/rear power split. The SE trim level replaces the LS. ES and SE versions have a 168-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). XLS has a 220-hp 3.0-liter V6 and a 6-speed automatic. The V6 is not offered on the ES or SE. Maximum towing capacity is 3500 lb. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. The ES seats five. XLS seats up to seven via a 3rd-row bench that folds into a well in the cargo floor. The 3rd-row bench seat is optional on the SE. All Outlanders are available with a wireless cell phone link and a navigation system with a 30-gigabyte hard drive for storing digital music files.

Mazdas CX-9 Crossover Will Make Its World Debut

Facelifted 2010 version of Mazdas CX-9 crossover will make its world debut.

Mazda will show a slightly revised version of its seven-seat crossover at the New York auto show next month.
The CX-9 receives an exterior and interior refresh with the addition of new options, reinforced safety features, and further improved Zoom-Zoom driving characteristics.

Mazda AZ-Wagon i

People with disabilities are getting a new road option in Japan, courtesy of Mazda. The company has just released a redesigned version of the Mazda AZ-Wagon i.

The Mazda AZ-Wagon i will be priced at$15,531 as a three-seater, and $15,780 with optional folding rear fourth seat.

Main features of the all-new AZ-Wagon i:

- New three-point seatbelt for wheelchair users (the previous model was equipped with a two-point seatbelt)
- A handrail on both sides of the rear cabin provides extra support and comes as standard equipment
- Easier wheelchair access due to the lower floor and gentler sloping ramp
- Anti-theft immobilizer fitted as standard equipment
- The four-seat version has a folding rear seat; the three-seat version has no rear seat.

Porsche Boxster and Cayman: Greener, Faster

New engines are the headline news for the revised Porsche Boxster and Cayman, which also get some styling tweaks.

The basic Boxster sells from $113,000 and makes 188kW/290Nm, enough to propel it to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds using an average 8.9 litres of fuel per 100km. The Boxster S costs $140,400 and has 228kW/360Nm for a claimed 0-100km/h of 5.2 seconds and 9.2L/100km fuel use.

For $122,200 the entry-level Cayman makes 195kW/300Nm and can top 100km/h in 5.7 seconds, using 8.9L/100km. The Cayman S ($155,300) gets 235kW/370Nm and can reach 100km/h in 5.1 seconds using 9.2L/100km.

Porsche Gets First Hybrid

Porsche is changing. In 2002 the ultimate sports car company released the ultimate performance SUV, the Cayenne. Later this year Porsche will release its first-ever four-door sedan. And in late 2010 Porsche will offer its first hybrid powertrain.

A desire to be socially responsible and a need to offer vehicles that could benefit from European tax incentives led Porsche to investigate developing a hybrid. Company management drove the competition to see if a hybrid system would fit with Porsche’s fun-to-drive character. They decided that hybrid driving does have a unique fun factor.

Daihatsu Motor Co. Skip Shanghai Motor Show

Daihatsu Motor Co. has decided not to participate in this year's Shanghai International Motor Show, which will be held next month.

In addition to its slow entry into the Chinese market, the firm's growing emphasis on costs versus benefits contributed to the decision. It participated in the 2007 event, but has sold only 500 units a month of its Xenia subcompact, which was released in China that year.

The Shanghai Motor Show is held every other year. The 2009 edition will run from April 22-28, with the exhibit area expanded 20 per cent from the 2007 show.

2010 Hyundai Equus

The sensational all-new Hyundai ix-onic concept car, made its world premiere at the 79th Geneva Motor Show, introducing a whole new look for a compact four-wheel-drive SUV.

According to Hyundai Europe’s head of design, Thomas Buerkle, the ix-onic is a 90 per cent match for the finished Tucson replacement, which, as we reported last month, will be called the ‘ix35’.

Powered by the new 1.6 liter GDi turbocharged 4 cylinder petrol engine that is capable of 170HP, this gorgeous looking concept previews the upcoming Tuscon crossover. Measuring 4,400 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,650 mm in height, the ix-onic features a front fascia with a hexagonal grille which was inspired by the 2006 Genus concept car and the 2008 i-mode concept car as well as head lights with daytime LED running lights, with more LED lights on the side mirrors.
